Research
2018 - Commercial television schema - Based on a review of the literature, I have developed, and am currently researching a theory of commercial television schema that predicts student learning outcomes from educational video content.
2017 - Television viewing and verbal performance - Review of literature on the relationship between television viewing behaviors and performance on verbal learning tests. Specific focus on a series of studies based on data from the General Social Survey that indicated a correlation between time spent watching television and performance on wordsum, a verbal knowledge survey in the GSS. Discussion and critical analysis of strengths and weaknesses of former studies, combined with original analysis in SPSS. Results in development for publication.
2015 - 3P Model for multimedia learning - Based on prior research, I developed a model to improve student learning outcomes from lecture-based videos. In a 16-week repeated measures study, average student learning outcomes from lecture videos modified with the 3P model were 12 points higher (a full letter grade) than unmodified videos. Results in development for publication.
2014 - Enhancing learning from lecture-based videos - Research to improve learning outcomes from lecture-based videos in an American literature course at a mid-size, public university. Findings presented at American Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) in 2015. Presentation title: Improving student learning outcomes through pre-training, segmenting, and reflection in instructional videos. Authors: Mary McCall and David Walker.
2013 - Diversity training in corporate America - Review of literature on diversity training in corporate America, focusing on successes and failures. Discussion and analysis of trends, methods, and proscriptions for improvement. University course presentation. In development for publication.
