Accomplishments (selected)
(2020 - present) - Athens Teaching & Learning Innovation Services - Led in the transformation of Athens State University's Academic Technology Services department into a Center for Teaching & Learning, providing leadership and services for faculty development, instructional design, multimedia development, classroom-based instructional technologies, learning management systems, and event-based audio-visuals.
(2020) HyFlex Pilot Program - Researched and proposed a HyFlex pilot program for Athens State University, and then collaborated with faculty on the development and implementation of a semester-long trial of this model in the Fall of 2020.
(2021) ActiveFlex – Developed an instructional model for Athens State University that aligns with its institutional identity, market position, and pedagogical research. This model guides the design of learning spaces, technology selections, faculty development curricula, and instructional support services. An article describing the ActiveFlex model is in development for publication.
(2021) President’s Award for Meritorious Performance – Presented by the President of Athens State University for exemplary leadership in instructional design and faculty support during the Pandemic.
(2021) Mary Norman Moore Beacon Award – Granted to ATLIS by the Athens State College of Arts & Sciences for exceptional leadership and support of faculty, and for “serving as a light of collegiality to guide our way.”
(2021) Institutional Resilience and Expanded Postsecondary Opportunity (IREPO) Grant – This two-year, $2.8M FIPSE grant provides for the creation of six technology-enhanced, collaborative learning spaces, as well as staffing and resources to support faculty in the design and delivery of instruction using the ActiveFlex approach at Athens State University. I collaborated in the development of the grant proposal, providing pedagogical research, classroom design, and technology specifications. I am also the institutional lead for providing technology and instructional support to instructors for these courses.
(2021) State of Alabama HyFlex Classrooms Grant – This $880,000 grant provides for the redesign of 7 (additional) classrooms to create technology enhanced collaborative learning spaces at Athens State University. I am the institutional lead in providing classroom design, technology specifications, installation, and support of these spaces.
(2020 - 2021) Classroom Technology Renovations – Using CARES Act funds designated by the State of Alabama, I led in the technology specification and renovation of all Athens State instructional spaces to enable synchronous instruction (face-to-face and virtual learners). Prior to this, no learning spaces were capable of providing this type of instruction.
(2021) Learning Technology Resource Center – Proposed, developed, and supervised a campus-based technology center to provide instructional technology consultation, service, support, and loan (short-term and long-term) for faculty and staff at Athens State.
(2020 - 2021) Faculty Development Program – Initiated and supervised Athens State’s faculty development program, which in its first year saw 50 faculty certified in Effective Online Teaching Practices by the Association for College and University Educators (ACUE).
(2020) Syllabus and Course Templates – Initiated and collaborated with Athens State faculty and staff to develop syllabus and course templates for face-to-face and online courses. These templates help standardize and brand the course experience for students, while supporting the Quality Matters design rubric.
(2019 - present) Quality Matters – Upon my arrival to Athens State in 2019, I assumed the role of supporting and supervising for the ongoing Quality Matters initiative. To date, there are approximately 60 courses certified under the QM rubric.
(2018 - 2019) Lecture Capture System search & onboarding - Led an inter-college faculty panel at the University of South Alabama to search, select, and transition to a new LMS-based lecture capture system.
(2018) Online Workshop Program - Led in design and development of an online workshop system that enables faculty to receive self-paced, online learning in specific areas of technology proficiency and pedagogy. Hosted in the learning management system, each lesson includes instructional experiences, assignments, and assessments, providing documentation of achievement. Presented results at Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) annual conference in 2018.
(2018) Title IX Training Curriculum - Project lead for collaborative re-design of University-wide training on Title IX regulations and compliance.
(2017-2019) Twenty-Minute Tuesdays - Executive Producer and Director of monthly video program presented on FaceBook Live. The program features topics on technology and pedagogy, designed to extend faculty development opportunities to the university community. Host and guests interact with viewers through Facebook posts during and after webcasts.
(2017-2019) Technology Mini-grant Partnerships - Proposed and obtained funding for mini-grant program that helps faculty and staff obtain technology that helps improve active learning outcomes.
(2016-2019) Partnership for Quality Preceptor and Student Education - Member of an inter-disciplinary team working on a $2.1M grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to support underserved communities through improved student nurse practitioner experiences and nurse preceptor development.
(2016) Learning Technology Leaders - Proposed and developed this campus-based organization that provides faculty and staff with peer to peer opportunities for collaboration, sharing, and learning in the areas of technology and pedagogy.
(2016) Inter-professional Experience for High Alert Medications - Training and assessment developer for simulation experience involving 200 pharmacy, nursing, and nurse practitioner students.
(2015) 3P Model for Multimedia Learning - Developed model for improving learning outcomes from video-based lectures. Two separate pilot studies have produced consistent learning improvements of one-letter grade. Findings presented at Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) in 2015.
(2015) JagPals Training - Collaborated with Office of Student Academic Success to develop and produce a video-based training and assessment curriculum for student mentors program that focuses on providing first-year support for minority and at-risk students.
(2014-2019) NU518 - Advanced Nursing Assessment - Developed customized workflow, instructional guides, and dedicated support for student video assignments in a summer online course with an enrollment of approximately 1,000 students.
(2013-2019) eLeaders - Executive producer and director a video series that highlights faculty use of innovative technologies and instructional strategies.
(2013-2019) Instructional Strategies - Executive producer and director for a series that describes effective instructional strategies for instructors.
(2012-2013) Mobile in Black and White - Consultation, production, and editing services for award-winning documentary on race relations in Mobile, Alabama.
