Title IX Presentation ReDesignBefore
After

Case NarrativeThe ILC was approached by the Division of Student Affairs in 2018 to help revise their Title IX presentation for students, faculty, and staff. The hour and half face to face presentation featured a PowerPoint presentation and live speaker. As the project lead on the team, I worked with members of their office and the Innovation in Learning Center to re-design and develop a more streamlined, interactive experience.
A critical part of this project was refocusing the intent of the presentation from simply the delivery of information to influencing attitudes and beliefs. With this conceptual change, we were able to greatly reduce the amount of verbal information in the presentation, and to provide more opportunities for interaction between the presenter and attendees. This led to the re-design of their website, and highlighting it during the presentation as the source for information on Title IX laws and best practices. Pear Deck questions were included at regular intervals to provide attendees opportunities to reflect, interact with each other, and explore the website for information. I re-worked the slides to provide a consistent branding to the presentation that featured: minimized amount of text, human images to contextualize content, and graphic images to organize content, contextualize themes, and to improve attention. Slide layout and design was informed by Richard Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning. The presentation was developed in GoogleSlides. Backgrounds, graphic elements, fonts, and images were provided, so that the presentation could be updated by the client, as needed. |
