High Alert Medication Instructional Experience
Case NarrativeIn 2016, I was a member of a grant-funded interdisciplinary team to develop an instructional experience for students in Physician Assistant, Nursing, and Pharmacy programs at the University of South Alabama. The project also sought to compare learning outcomes between simulation-based learning experiences and traditional classroom instruction.
Approximately 200 students participated in this experience, which sought to improve knowledge and performance outcomes in prescribing and administering High Alert Medications. The learning experience featured an instructional video presentation, followed by an application experience. Participants were divided into 2 groups, each assigned to one of two different application experiences:
I designed and developed the instructional materials, and provided alignment analysis between pre-test, post-test, and instruction. I consulted on the design and collection of data. I also designed and developed the course site, which was based in the learning management system (Sakai). The LMS lacked a responsive HTML capability, so the course site was designed to fit in a narrow pixel width (600 pixels), in order to fit iOS and other smartphone devices. |
